The city of Maastricht
Maastricht is located along the river Maas in southern Limburg. It is located in the Dutch Mountains which is somewhat of a misnomer, although the region is hilly, and, compared to the rest of The Netherlands, they are mountain-like. Southern Limburg is an extension of The Netherlands that lies between Belgium, Germany and France.

Maastricht itself is a city of 117,000 that is known for its historic buildings and the yearly Carnaval parade. The city has been inhabited since pre-historic times and is considered to be the oldest city in The Netherlands. Nowadays, Maastricht is widely known as a centre of tradition, history and culture[1], and popular with tourists for shopping and recreation. The city also has a large international student population.
